Some people when hearing the word sport, dismiss it as games played by jocks with no brain cells in their bodies. These people, however, are naive with their thinking. Sports have played an immense role in civilization as a whole and even helps with peace relations between waring countries.
During WWI, there were instances were on the front lines during holidays both sides would have a cease fire and go out in to the war torn field and play a pick-up game of soccer.
Who could also forget the story of the Iraq soccer team who through the oppression they had been through in the last few years from a dictator to war, was able to not only qualify for the Olympic games, but almost grab gold for their country.
These specific instances are just some of the reasons why sports has become a love of mine. The way sports can effect the lives of so many and make people forget of their hardships are the reasons why I write about this and I hope that maybe my words can help effect others as well.
